Acts 2:42-47
In
our study to define and understand a Disciple, we have come to learn
that a disciple is a follower of Christ, and one who believes and obeys
Christ. In today's study, I want us to understand that a disciple is one
who lives in community with other believers. The word
"community" can both be attractive to us and repulsive to us. We long
for the benefits of community but we resist the demands that community
makes. Our scripture passage in Acts 2 will show us what this means to
us.
It’s my prayer that as we look into our text and get a glimpse of the communal life and spirit of the early church that each of us will be encouraged to live passionately in community with other believers as we follow after Christ.

John 8:31-41
As we continue our series on Discipleship, we want to continue to define and explain, according to the Bible, how one can be a disciple of Christ. In our text today Jesus teaches us that being a disciple, at its core, is truly very simple. Even though it is very simple it involves our whole life. This is where the message of Jesus becomes hard for many to accept and believe.
My prayer for you today is that you will see clearly the simplicity of following Christ and the majesty of God in what He does for His disciples. I hope that you are encouraged to passionately follow after Christ as one of His disciples and see the freedom you have been given in Christ.

DISCIPLESHIP // 1. A Disciple is One Who Follows Christ

Matthew 4:18-22
In a couple of days 2015 will soon be behind us. We were challenged this year to be Unashamed of the Gospel in our Home, in our Neighborhood, in our Workplace, in our Church, and in our World. Now, let's build upon that by taking on Christ's call and command to “Come and follow me” (Matthew 4:19) and “Go and make disciples”. (Matthew 28:19).
Today, we begin our Vision Launch 2016! This year we want to challenge everyone to be a Christ follower… a disciple of Christ. Now that raises a fundamental question. What does it actually mean to be a “disciple” of Jesus? If we are going to make disciples, we need to know what that is. In our text, Matthew 4:18-22 will show us just what that means. It’s my desire that you will be encouraged in the Word today and be committed in the coming new year to be a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ.

MAJESTY // 4. The Majesty of God Revealed in the Supremacy of Christ

Hebrews 1:3-4
As we conclude our Advent series about the Majesty of God, I want us to see the supremacy of Christ as it’s revealed in the majesty of God. Our text today stresses the supremacy and the sufficiency of Christ and His word. The answer to each and every one of you who are struggling to find fulfillment in Christianity is to point you right back to Jesus. The author of Hebrews is impressing upon us that there is no higher answer to a deep relationship and fellowship with God than Jesus. You can’t do better than Jesus. There’s no place for a higher experience beyond Jesus.
Therefore, it's my desire that you will be at a loss for words as we look at the hidden depths and insights within this passage. It’s my prayer that the teaching of God’s Word will encourage you, strengthen you and challenge you to be unashamed of the gospel this week. -Pastor Terry

John 1:1-16
As we continue in our series about the majesty of God, we want to take some time to look at the majesty of God as it’s revealed in the incarnation of Christ. There are many things that are attacked in our faith, but there is nothing that has come more under fire than the person and work of Jesus.
I hope today that you are more amazed by who God is as we look at John 1:1-16 to see the rich depth of Jesus revealed in this passage. I pray you are blessed by this teaching from God’s Word and that you are strengthened to be unashamed of the gospel this coming week.

Isaiah 59:1-20
As we think over the events of these past several weeks, we find ourselves focusing on these dark moments in our world and specifically our society. We are now feeling the uncertainty of life enlarge partly due to the terrorist attack on Paris last November 13th, the shooting of three and the wounding of others at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, CO, and the terrorist attack this past Tuesday, December 2nd in San Bernardino killing 14 people and injuring 17 more. The fact that we live in a violent world is something that we, as true believers, understand and yet we wonder how anyone can be motivated to this kind of violent act.
So, let me ask you a question: when you’re dealing with these dark moments in our world and the uncertainties of life, where is your hope? It’s my desire to encourage you to see the only true hope is found in Christ. It’s my prayer that in the uncertainties of life and these dark moments in our world that your hope is anchored in the sovereign Christ.

Psalm 8
As we find ourselves heading into the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it is important for us to slow down and consider how our hearts are interacting with what the world would tell us is important. During this time of year it is important to give thanks for the good gifts that we have been given - like family, friends, food, and presents. But we have to be careful that we do not love the gifts more than the good gift Giver.
With this sermon I hope to encourage you to stop, look around, and grow in your awe of God. I pray that you are encouraged to see God in the everyday moments and to worship him as you enjoy the gifts He has given.

LUKE // 33. The Closing Remarks
Sunday Nov 22, 2015

Luke 6:39-49
In Luke 6, Jesus spent several verses teaching the disciples what it means to be a Christ follower. He is teaching them what it looks like to be a true believer, one who loves God, and loves others. Since verse 20 Jesus’ “Sermon on the Plain" has been teaching them about Christian character, how to live, and how to treat others. In other words, being a follower of Jesus Christ is a life-style. It's not something we put on and take off like a coat whenever it suits us. Following Jesus takes a heart that is committed to obeying the Lord's commands and having a desire to serve others and please Him.
In today's passage Jesus is giving His"closing remarks" on what it means to be a Christ-follower. In verses 39-49 we see some parables and imagery that Jesus used to help the disciples, and to help us, understand and see what this kind of life-style looks like. Jesus wants to make sure we get the point of this teaching. Let's look together at our text: Luke 6:39-49.

LUKE // 32. How to Treat Others

Luke 6:37-38
I would imagine that you find relationships to be a challenge at times, just like I do. You might even have that certain someone who seems to bring out the worst in you. But perhaps God places people like this in our lives to help us deal with our own character flaws. And we all have flaws. We are, after all, a sinful people. The past couple of weeks have shown us how believers in Christ are to live and conduct themselves. In today's text Jesus continues to address character issues.
The bottom line is this: We are to treat others according to how our Heavenly Father has treated us. Luke 6:31 tells us, "And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them." How do we do that? Let's look together at Luke 6:37-38.

LUKE // 31. The Opposite of a Life Well Lived
Sunday Nov 08, 2015
Sunday Nov 08, 2015
Luke 6:24-26
A couple of weeks ago Pastor Nate preached a message from the Gospel of Luke about "A Life Well Lived". He spoke how Jesus taught on the upside down nature of kingdom living. In other words, although there is a great cost in following Jesus there are also great blessings in following Him. The blessings are greater than the cost. Being a true disciple of Christ is a life well lived.
Our study today looks at the opposite of a life well lived; a self-centered life. In fact, Jesus pronounces "woes" to those whose lives are focused on things other than Christ Himself. Although there may be pleasure for a brief time in living for self, the cost of pursuing after worldly things is great. Luke addresses that cost in our text today. Let's look together at four “Woes" and ask God to show us if there needs to be any changes made in our own lives.
